The distillery of Grand Master Nam Sang-ran in Nonsan, South Chungcheong Province, creates the ‘King Wine,’ the ceremonial liquor used in the Royal Ancestral Ritual in the Jongmyo Shrine. Nam Sang-ran, the 13th Korean Food Grand Master, recreates the drink from a recipe passed down in secret within the Joseon royal family. The ‘King Wine,’ also known as the royal drink, is an alcoholic drink made with the clear water of Nonsan. The drink is brewed for a hundred days on the ground and contains springy, sweet, and sour tastes, and gentle medicinal herb fragrances. Grand Master Nam Sang-ran continues with the original traditional methods to this day, watching over the visitors who have come to taste the King Wine from all over Korea. The drink made with proud craftmanship is loved by many with its clean taste without headaches and hangovers.
