A single family operates Bright World Farming distillery. The family includes the father, a painter, the older sister, a fashion designer, the younger sister, a photographer, and the mother, a culinary researcher and potter. The distillery produces only two kinds of liquor: ‘Tigercalyx Makgeolli’, unrefined rice wine and ‘Sohoju’, premium soju. The distillery building is where alcohol is brewed. The ‘jangdokdae’ jars, lined up in the courtyard, are where fermented vinegar is stored. The old building home to Bright World Farming was built in 1944. Painter Lee Gye-song’s father had lived in it, and inherited it to them. Although there had been some renovations, the doorplates, wooden floor, and other parts are well-preserved. The sky fits inside a square picture frame looking out from the courtyard. From the pump installed in the middle of the courtyard springs natural bedrock water, the key ingredient in making the ‘Tigercalyx Makgeolli’. Inside the gallery cafe, visitors can taste and purchase the ‘Tigercalyx Makgeolli’ and ‘Sohoju.’ Painter Lee Gye-song’s works decorate the interior, where visitors can enjoy their alcoholic drinks with artwork.
